BJP’S VARUN GANDHI TO START ELECTION CAMPAIGN FROM SULTANPUR

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) General Secretary Varun Gandhi on Sunday kick started the election campaign for the upcoming General Elections from Uttar Pradesh.

Though, BJP is yet to declare its list of candidates, Varun Gandhi is likely to contest from the Sultanpur parliamentary constituency. He is currently an MP from Pilibhit. He won the last election from Pilibhit in the northern part of the state, which used to be represented by his mother, Maneka, who vacated it for him in 2009.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has “almost finalized” names of 30 candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The names, which have been cleared by the party’s national parliamentary board after due deliberations with the state unit, are likely to be announced by the end of February.

The first list of candidates includes names of Varun Gandhi, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh (Etah), Ramakant Yadav (Azamgarh), Hukum Singh (Kairana), Sanjeev Baliyan (Muzaffarnagar), Dharmendra Kashyap (Aonla), Rajendra Agarwal (Meerut) and Ram Shankar Katheria from Agra.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has called a meeting of all zonal in-charges of the RSS at Varanasi on February 15.  Son of Menaka and late Sanjay Gandhi, 33 years old Varun, first visited Bijuthua Hanuman Temple today before addressing an another rally at Kadipur Junior High School Ground.

After Varun’s entry in Sultanpur, three persons from Nehru-Gandhi would be in the race of 2014 General Elections. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has been representing Amethi Lok Sabha constituency that falls in Sultanpur district while party President Sonia Gandhi is MP from neighboring Rae Bareli.

An outspoken politician from the famed Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, Varun was jailed in 2009 for making a virulently anti-Muslim speech after he won the election from Pilibhit. However, due to lack of evidence, a local court in UP cleared him off the charges.

The BJP has 10 MPs in the state in the outgoing Lok Sabha. The party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s close aide Amit Shah has been appointed the in-charge of the party affairs in the state with an aim to win as many seats as they can in
