Aam Aadmi Party Registers a Landslide Victory in Delhi Assembly Elections
The Delhi Assembly Election results are out and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won a total of 67 seats out of the 70 seats in Delhi. The ruling party at the Centre Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was able to win only three seats out of the 70. The Congress party that has ruled Delhi for three consecutive periods could not win even a single seat in the recently concluded 2015 Delhi elections.
Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi, now has the majority to rule Delhi for the next five years without any hindrance. Last time, he was the Chief Minister of Delhi for just 49 days and had to step down from the post on 14th February 2014. Now, in 2015 he will be taking oath of office on the 14th of February at the RamLila Grounds in Delhi.
The Modi wave is completely swept away by the Kejriwal tsunami in Delhi. PM Modi had campaigned for the BJP four times. Apart from Modi, top leaders of the BJP also had extensively campaigned in Delhi as BJP knew that if it had won Delhi elections, then it had a strong grip hold on almost all the states of India.
The AAP political party which is just four years old has made a near clean sweep of the Delhi Assembly seats. What this meant was that the Chief Ministerial candidate of the BJP, former IPS police officer Kiran Bedi also had to bite the dust and taste defeat in her first ever elections. AAP enjoyed a vote share of 54.3% and the BJP which came a distant second had a vote share of 32.8%.
Arvind Kejriwal has promised that he would be a Janta’s Chief Minister and wants to end the VIP culture and corruption in his state. There have been huge poll promises made by the AAP party and the party will now have to work tirelessly to fulfill these promises. Arvind Kejriwal has now been elected as the leader of the AAP legislative party at the meeting of the new legislative assembly members.
Kiran Bedi has come out in the open and said that she fully takes the blame for the defeat of BJP in the Delhi Elections and her defeat is also the defeat of the BJP. The party will introspect as to what went wrong in the elections. AAP cadres are saying that this huge victory of the AAP will have a huge impact all over the country. Now, AAP will be looking to venture into other states as well.
