Aap Aadmi Party’s supremo Arvind Kejriwal said Sunday it is absolutely shocking that the Election Commission is delaying in releasing the final turnout of voters in Delhi’s assembly elections of February 8.

In his tweet the Delhi Chief Minister continued, “Absolutely shocking. What is EC doing? Why are they not releasing poll turnout figures, several hours after polling?”

His party also alleged that voter fraud could be taking place by tampering of the Electronic Voting Machines.

EC said today, about 24 hours after the elections were closed on Saturday, that the turnout was around 62.59 percent of 1.47 crore voters. In 2015 the turnout was more, 67.5 percent.

Usually EC releases the data on the same day when the elections closes up.

Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh said, “Accuracy is very important, it was taking time to collate the data.”

The voters’ turnout was low most of the day but a spurt was recorded after 3 pm. EC released a provisional figure mentioning the turnout could be at 57.06 percent.

Late into the night EC spokesperson Sheyphali Sharan said the turnout could be 61.43 percent.
