Additional forces to Valley sparks debate Article 35A could be removed

It seems the demography of part of Jammu and Kashmir may change soon. Article 35A could be removed, paving ways to empowering of the state’s legislature.

Deployment of additional forces in the Valley is prompting regional political leaders to say it is a gesture of bigger plan to abrogate Article 35A.

Simultaneously, locals are being seen buying essential items out of panic.

However, if looked at the statement of senior police officers in Jammu and Kashmir, the deployment of additional forces is just a part of routine with intention to relieve stretched colleagues in the region.

Extra 10,000 forces were dispatched on Friday to Kashmir citing the move of New Delhi is to strengthen the CI, which means counter-insurgency, grid.

Union Home Ministry’s notification reads the additional 10,000 personnel to the Valley is being deployed maintaining law and order.

Jammu and Kashmir Police Additional DGP (Law and Order) Muneer Khan said the additional forces make up for the 200 companies and made for mandatory training exercises.

According to Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbagh Singh, the extra forces deployed were a law and order measure.

The first batch started to fly on Saturday.

Former minister Sajad Lone said, “Nobody seems to have the remotest idea of what is in the offing. The rumours of tinkering with Article 35A are spreading fast and there is no reaction from the state or the Central government.”
