Another gang rape, murder reminds Nirbhaya, protests across Hyderabad

Major protests were witnessed outside Shadnagar police station Saturday and across Telangana as well as Hyderabad in the wake of brutal gang rape and murder of another Nirbhaya.

Cyberabad police arrested four people on Friday and one among them is believed to have smothered the 27-year-old veterinary doctor to bar her from screaming. She is believed to have died out of suffocation.

The heinous crime has again reminded the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape, sparking outrage across India.

The four accused, lorry drivers Mohammed Areef, 26, and C Chennakeshavulu, 20, two helpers J Shiva and J Naveen, are learned to have dragged the victim to an empty plot near Thondapalli toll plaza in Shamshabad, outskirts of Hyderabad, and raped her.

After raping the four took the dead body in a truck to Shadnagar and put it ablaze at an underpass on the highway.

Cyberabad police commissioner V Sajjanar said the woman parked her scooter at Shamshabad toll plaza in the evening and returned to pick it up at around 9 pm. She found 1 wheel of the two-wheeler deflated, which is alleged to have been done by the accused.

The four had hatched plan to rape when they saw her park her scooter. After parking she took a cab to Gachibowli.

Areef approached the lady on the pretext of helping her when she found the wheel deflated. All of them dragged her to the nearby empty plot.
