Apple May Manufacture iPhone In India In Near Future

The big day has come and Apple will be unveiling tomorrow its upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in San Francisco at 1PM ET, but ahead of the event it is once again rumored the company has plans of manufacturing the smartphones in India.

The Economic Times report citing sources the Foxconn’s Indian facilities may be manufacturing a quantity of iPhone models. It is further said the change may come in the period of next two or three years.

The source said, “There’s definitely interest… When Tim Cook was here, the government raised the issue of making in India. It is after that that Apple started thinking of doing something in India which is long term.”

Earlier it was reported Foxconn is looking ahead to be building a plant in India and the manufacturing in it would be exclusively for Apple products.

If the manufacturing starts in India, the two great advantages would be cheaper prices for locals and Apple would get a faster time to market the products. Added to this, the company may also get good opportunity to open retail stores in the country.

India represents a good opportunity for the iDevice giant as iPhone sales plateau. However, it has been seen the market capturing had been slow here.
