Arundhati Roy should be booked under NSA: Subramanian Swamy

Author Arundhati Roy should be arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) for her comments on the National Population Register, said Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy.

The senior BJP leader also called Arundhati Roy as danger for the society for her attempt to bring India in dispute by creating hatred against the Hindu community.

Swamy added, “This amounts to sedition. In effect you are saying is not an illegitimate government. Leave aside the sanctity of the law, even for the national survey if officials ask how many kgs of rice you eat, you have to tell the truth.”

Arundhati Roy suggested people in Delhi to oppose the NPR by furnishing wrong details of their name and address to the government officials who will visit the houses for the exercise.

Addressing to a protest she said the NPR will serve as a database for the NRC and people need to fight against it.

She said, “They will visit your homes, take your name, phone number and ask for documents like Aadhaar and driving licences… For address say 7 RCR. A lot of subversion will be needed, we are not born to face lathis and bullets.”

According to Roy, the NRC was targeting against the Muslim Community.

Meanwhile, several leaders from the opposition are claiming NPR is a first step towards NRC while Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified there is no link between the two.
