Astha Geriatric Center and Hospice Bags National Award for Best Institution

New Delhi, 05/10/16: Honorable President of India awarded Aastha Geriatric Center & Hospice with the National Award ‘Vayoshreshtha Samman’ for outstanding service in the field of ageing (Geriatrics), at New Delhi on October 1, 2016. The Founder & Medical Director of Aastha Dr. Abhishek Shukla received the award in the ceremony organised at Vigyan Bhawan on the eve of International Day of Older Persons for rendering distinguished services in the field of Ageing. The award included Citation, Memento & cash award worth Rs. 5.0 lakhs.
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment organized Vayoshreshtha Samman for eminent individuals and institutions involved in distinguished services for the cause of elderly on 1st of October 2016, on the occasion of Elder’s day. Aastha Centre for Geriatric Medicine, Palliative Care Hospital, Hospice & Social Welfare Society, stood first all across India under the category ‘Best Institution for providing services to Senior Citizens and Awareness Generation’.
An elated Dr. Shukla said, “This recognition will certainly motivate me and others working in the field of Geriatrics.” He further added that ageing, geriatrics, old age home, specialised old age hospitals and issues related to old age are my passion and I have been working on these issues for over a decade now, we have been able to establish the existence of Geriatrics in Uttar Pradesh.
Dr Shukla’s organisation was nominated by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. After receiving the award Dr. Shukla said, “In the initial stage we were not very optimistic about the award but when the MHA people came for verification, we could feel that our candidature is being considered for the National Award.The award is of great significance as only one organisation is awarded in the entire country.
