Bijoy Mohapatra rejoins BJP; Party’s prospects strengthened in Kendrapara

Prospects of Bharatiya Janata Party in Kendrapara are further strengthened with return of veteran coastal Odisha leader Bijoy Mohapatra, who is considered as one of such personalities in the states to have sharpest political minds.

He resigned from the party last December along with his friend and Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray, but BJP said his resignation was never accepted.

The party’s new vice president Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda welcomed back Mohapatra and said his mind was changed after discussiohns wtih him and state-in-charge Arun Singh.

Addressing to the press Panda added Mohapatra also had spoken to BJP President Amit Shah and general secretary Ram Lal before changing his mind to return back.

Mohapatra said, “Since elections are nearing, we have d coded to join hands, forget old issues and set out on a new path for change.”

In the state has also often been referred as Naveen Patnaik’s bete noir. He was a minister in late Biju Patnaik’s cabinet. He was founding member of the Biju Janata Dal too.

In 2000 he was denied ticket for the Patkura assembly seat by Patnaik. The same year he ensured loss of BJD’s candidate.

Over the years Mohapatra formed his own party and merged with NCP. Later he joined hands with BJD after breaking ties with NCP.

There are 7 assembly segments in the Kandrapara Lok Sabha and in 2014 BJD grabbed Mahanga, Mahakalpada, Kendrapara (assembly) and Patkura.
