Biopic PM Narendra Modi not releasing on April 5

Biopic PM Narendra Modi will not be hitting the theaters as scheduled, April 5th. Its release has been postponed and if believed to lawyer of filmmaker Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has not given clearance to the film.

Producer Sandip Ssingh tweeted, “This is to confirm, our film PM Narendra Modi is not releasing on 5th April. Will update soon.”

Lok Sabha elections is beginning on April 8 and hence the movie has generated enough debate. Some of the voices said it is a propaganda film. The director Omung Kumar too had undergone scanner of Election Commission following complain of opposition parties about violation of Model Code of Conduct.

However, EC had written to CBFC clarifying that the board has last worn on the matter.

The letter added in such situation when Model Code of Conduct is in force, the board should certify any political film as per extant provisions of the Cinematograph Act.

Lead actor Vivek Oberoi had earlier said, “Why are such senior and famous lawyers like Abhishek Singhvi ji and Kapil Sibal ji wasting time on filing a PIL on such a modest film? Don’t know if they are scared of the film or of Chowkidar’s danda. We are not projecting Modi ji as a hero, he already is a hero, not only for me but for crores of people in India and abroad. It is an inspirational story which we brought to the screen.”
