BJP launches “Main Bhi Chowkidar hoon” elections campaign
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched “Main Bhi Chowkidar hoon” election campaign Saturday countering attacks by oppositions on several occasions that “Chowkidar chor hai.”
In a tweet Modi said that he is not alone who is serving India, but any person who serve the nation is a chowkidar.
His tweet read, “Everyone who is fighting corruption, dirt, social evils is a Chowkidar. Everyone working hard for the progress of India is a Chowkidar. Today, every Indian is saying #MainBhiChowkidar.”
Often in his speeches Modi has addressed himself as a chowkidar of India. He referred to the role of safeguarding country’s interests. Opposition has repeatedly criticized it and accused the government of alleged corruption in Rafale deal.
In 2014 Lok Sabha elections campaign the party took on Manishankar Aiyar’s Chaiwala jibe. Five years later the new strategy of jibe looks similar.
Releasing a statement the party said extensive surveys and data analysis suggests Chowkidar Chor Hai jibes of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is angering people instead of resonating among the mass.
The BJP statement further added, “The campaign will also further drive the narrative of PM’s strong and decisive image which multiple surveys have conveyed is the main factor in the upcoming elections.”
The party also released a video in which people are proudly claiming to be a chowkidar of India.
