BJP rewards Assam finance minister with open option to choose Lok Sabha seat

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma seems to have pleased the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national leadership for his work in the state and expanding the party’s influence in the northeast. He has been asked to choose a seat anywhere in India to fight for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be begin April 11 and end by May 19.

State BJP president Ranjeet Dass said it was a great decision by the national leadership for Himanta and he had requested that before finalizing let Assam be given priority.

Meanwhile, a party source said Himanta is now being considered to fight from Tezpur constituency and Amit Shah could soon make a formal announcement.

Not everyone seems to be happy with the decision of party for Himanta. MP from Tezpur Ram Prasad Sarmrah announced Saturday he is quitting BJP alleging old workers are being neglected for new intruders.

Ram Prasad Sarmah has served RSS and VHP for fifteen long years and is in BJP for past 29 years. He has resigned from the primary membership of the party saying in a Facebook post, “I have left BJP today. I really feel pained in my heart for those old BJP workers of Assam who are most neglected in the praty by the new intruders in the party.”
