BJP-TMC Bengal battle eases with Dhankar’s visit to Mamata’s residence

The political scenario in West Bengal seems changed a bit. Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and his wife were invited at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence on Kali Puja Sunday evening. The three spent at least an hour along with members of cabinet and other guests.

Media was restricted from entering the enclosure set up outside the house of Banerjee at Kolkata’s Kalighat but a glimpse of Dhnakar was seen hugging TMC secretary general and education minister Partha Chatterjee. Both exchanged pleasantries.

The changed scenario on political ground came after weeks of acrimony between the TMC leaders and Raj Bhavan including an incidence when Dhankhar rushed to Jadavpur University to rescue Union minister and BJP leader Babul Supriyo from agitating students.

Dhankhar is the chancellor of Jadavpur University.

Dhankar was sworn in as governor of West Bengal on July 30 and the Jadavpur University incident took place on September 19.

Dhankhar also criticized the state government for paying less attention to the Jiaganj triple murder case.

Amid such incidences and initiative taken by Dhankhar, the TMC leaders alleged the governor has overstepped his role in Bengal.

Earlier, Banerjee tied rakhi to Dhankar on Rakshabandhan on August 15.

Following his visit to Banerjee’s residence and observing Kali Puja the governor said, The Puja at her residence began in 1978. My wife and I are extremely happy. We would visit her residence tomorrow to attend the puja… We are privileged and honored by the invite. We bow our heads.”
