BJP’s website still down even after 11 days of hacking

The official website of Bharatiya Janata Party still writes, “We’ll be back soon!” It has been eleven day since the online mouthpiece was hacked.

On March 5 the hacked version of BJP website showed a meme of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel. After taking note of the compromise the site was immediately taken down.

No hacker group has yet claimed responsibility of the hacking.

Weeks before the website was hacked, the Chhattisgarh unit website of BJP was defaced too.

According to a statement by Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on March 12 the national website of BJP was compromised for just few minutes.

Prasad said, “There are rogue elements in the society… The site was hacked only for a few minutes. We got back control very soon.”

However, the minister didn’t detail anything about when can the website be resumed to its normal condition again.

BJP's website still down even after 11 days

A media report reveals BJP suspects political adversaries were behind the hacking.

Party officials said the website could have been resumed in hours after the attack but BJP decided to revamp it completely as the website’s technology has not been upgraded any time in past five years and it was on card earlier.

Meanwhile, cyber-security expert says it is surprising BJP has not yet resumed the website even after 10 days of hacking.
