Black Tea Has Health Benefit: Study

Black tea is beneficial for health similar to green tea. A new study reveals it prevents obesity and promotes well-being as well.

Polyphenols named chemical is found in black tea and it is said to alter energy metabolism in the liver by changing gut metabolites.

Earlier it was only known the polyphenols of green tea are more effective as it is absorbed into the blood and tissue.

Lead author of the study, Susanne Henning, said black tea too contributes to good health and weight loss.

Henning is professor at the University of California.

It is said the black tea as well as green tea are prebiotics, which means those have substances that induce the growth of good microorganisms that contribute to the well-being.

Details of the study are published in the European Journal of Nutrition.

The study was conducted on mice and was found those mice that consumed black tea extract showed increase in a type of bacteria called Pseudobutyrivibrio.

The researchers suggest health benefits of both black tea as well as green tea go beyond their antioxidant benefits.

Director at UCLA’s Centre for Human Nutrition, Zhaoping Li, said both the drinks have strong impact on the gut microbiome.
