BREAKING: 50 Killed, 150 Injured; Train Crashes In Indian State Uttar Pradesh
At least fifty people have been reported killed in northern Uttar Pradesh state of India in early hours of Sunday when a train traveling between Patna and Indore cities was derailed.
Railway official confirms the death toll to be around thirty while TV reports claim 45-50 people have died and more than 150 are injured.
Indian government tweeted rescue operations were under way to the spot, near Kanpur in northern India.
The cause of disaster is still not known.
Indian Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu said investigation to the derailment would immediately begin and accountability with strictest possible action is promised.
Over 20 million people travel in Indian railway system each day and every year thousands of people die due to such incidents that turn to tragic consequences sometimes. Last year 39 people died and 150 others were injured in a train accident in the same state Uttar Pradesh.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and expressed his condolences.
He wrote, “Anguished beyond words on the loss of lives due to the derailing of the Patna-Indore express. My thoughts are with the bereaved families.”
Uttar Pradesh is biggest state in India and next year would go to poll for Assembly election.
