BREAKING: Cyclonic storm Vayu to landfall Thursday morning; Alert issued

Cyclonic storm Vayu would make landfall Thursday morning between Veraval and Diu. Indian Meteorological Department said Tuesday evening the storm was about 570 km south of Verawal.

A high alert has been issued along the coastal districts of Gujarat and Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed preparations for it.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reveals 26 teams have been deployed with 45 personnel in each team. The rescuers are well equipped with tree-cutters, boats and other items.

Tourists visiting Porbandar, Somnath, Dwarka and other parts of Saurashtra are advised to remain away from the coastal areas.

Schools have been asked to postpone enrolment drive in the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the state government has also sought suggestions from Odisha on disaster management based on the state’s recently successfully battled Cyclone Fani.

About three lakh people are to be evacuated from Junagadh, Diu, Rajkot, Porbandar, Dwarka and other low-lying regions.
