BREAKING: DMK Chief M Karunanidhi Passes Away

Update: Madras High Court allows burial of Karunanidhi at Marina Beach

Ruled Tamil Nadu’s politics for six decades, former chief minister M Karunanidhi passed away Tuesday evening at around 6 p.m. at Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital.

The 94-year-old leader was lately hospitalized following his deteriorating heath due to blood pressure issue. Prior to it, he was undergoing treatment at his Chennai home.

Karunanidhi entered his 50th year as DMK chief late last month. Supporters used to commonly address him as Kalaignar, which mean artiste. He has served as chief minister of Tamil Nadu for five times.

He has been ill for over a yaer and earlier was tube-fed at Kauvery Hospital. He had contracted a urinary tract infection lately and this led to decline in his condition.

For past one year or more several politicians have been visiting the CM.

Meanwhile, the state government had earlier rejected the party’s request about alloting a space at Marina beach owing tor several pending cases in the Madras High Court as well as several legal complications.

Instead, the leader is learned to be laid to rest near Gandhi Mandapam at a 2-acre plot.

Only two state chief ministers have memorials in their honor at the Marina beach. One was the founder of DMK, CN Annadurai, and the other who launched AIADMK, MG Ramachandran.
