BREAKING: Six blasts across Sri Lankan capital Colombo; 150 dead

About 150 people including 9 foreigners have been killed and hundreds other injured in six explosions in and around Sri Lankan capital Colombo Sunday morning local time.

The first two blasts were reported at around 8:45 am and little later police confirmed four more explosions – one in a church and three at hotels in Colombo.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe condemned the attack in a tweet and urged people to remain strong and united.

President Maithripala Sirisena said was shocked by the multiple explosions and appealed to the peole to remain calm.

The government called an emergency meeting amid rescue operations were underway.

The three churches attacked are St Anthony’s Church in Colombo, St Sebastian’s Church at Katuwapitiya in Negombo town and a church in Batticaloa town.

The three hotels attacked are Cinnamon Grand Hotel, the Shangri-La and Kingsbury in Colombo.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said she is in touch with the Indian High Commissioner in Colombo and the government is monitoring the situation.
