BREAKING: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Passes Away
AIADMK leader, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jayaraman passed away Monday following a massive cardiac arrest on Sunday evening.
Apollo Hospital confirmed her death at 11:30 p.m. citing her condition was very critical and she was on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and life support systems.
Commonly called as Amma, the leader was admitted to hospital on September 22 with complaints of fever and dehydration and underlying comorbicities.
Hospital press release said, “Unfortunately the honourable chief minister suffered a massive cardiac arrest on December, 4 2016, even while our intensivist was in her room.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan and many other politicians and people have tweeted their condolences immediately after the announcement of her sad demise was made.
Born in 1948, actress-turned-politician Jayalalithaa has worked in more than 200 films. She entered politics in 1982 and became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time in 1991.
