CBI to seek remand for P Chidambaram today in INX corruption case

Former finance minister P Chidambaram will be produced in a CBI court later today. He was arrested Wednesday night following a high-voltage drama of about one hour on the basis of a warrant of a competent court.

The senior Congress leader will be interrogated by the CBI in connection with INX Media corruption case.

P Chidambaram was kept overnight in suit No. 5 of CBI Guest House at the CBI headquarters. A team of doctors from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital conducted his medical examination. Agency will seek his remand today from a special CBI court.

Meanwhile, public interest lawyer Prashant Bhushan said arrest of the Ex-FM for custodial interrogation was malafide. P Chidamabaram’s son Karti Chidambaram said to be protesting arrest at Jantar Mantar. Karti added that arrest of his father is politically motivated witchhunt.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Satya Pal Singh said dignity of the former home minister would have remained intact if he had surrendered earlier.

P Chidambaram is alleged to have been involved in kickbacks received by his son Karti Chidambaram to allow television company INX Media to receive Rs 305 crore of foreign funds in 2007.

On 15 May 2017 CBI registered an FIR alleging Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance irregularities when P Chidambaram was finance minister.
