Chilkur Balaji temple authorities condemned the gang rape and murder of Veterinary doctor and closed the darshans and Pradakshinas of the worship place for twenty minutes Sunday between 11 am and 11.20 am.

After the temple doors were opened the priests expressed grieves over the Telangana doctor’s death and made devotees rais slogan to protect women in the country.

Priest Rangaranjan said, “Protection needed for nine-month-old baby girl to 80-year-old elderly women.”

Managing committee convenor Gopalakrishna, priests Kannaiah and Murali appealed to everyone to respect women.

Meanwhile, the accused, Mohammed Arif, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, Jollu Shiva and Jollu Naveen have been sent to 14-day judicial custody. The order was passed by Mandal executive magistrate (MRO) in Telangana’s Shadnagar as judge for the fast-track court was not available and also the situation outside the police station was tensed amid wide protests demanding capital punishment.

The magistrate and three doctors were brought to the police station through the back door.

Officials failed to disperse the crowd even after repeated requests and had to lathi-charge on the protesters who were raising slogans of “we want justice.”

Additional force has been deployed around the police station to tighten security and prevent any violence by the protesters.

The four accused, two truck drivers and two cleaners, have been shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail. They hail from Narayanpet district of Telangana.

They are alleged to have gang raped and killed the doctor near a toll plaza on Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Shamshabad, outskirts of Hyderabad, on Wednesday night. They later shifted the dead body to an underpass near Shadnagar and set it afire.
