Chris Gayle eliminated from West Indies squad against India

The West Indies cricket squad for upcoming ODI and T20I series against India has been announced and it is learned the explosive opening batsman Chris Gayle has been eliminated from the limited overs series citing personal reasons.

The West Indies tour to India is scheduled to start from October 21 and off spinner Sunil Narine too is excluded from the 15-member squad. Three new faces are to be seen – opener Chrandrapaul Hemraj, all-rounder Fabian Allen and fast bowler Oshane Thomas. Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite are to lead the ODI and T20 squads respectively.

In the comeback list is all-rounder Kieron Pollard and Darren Bravo in the T20 format. In the ODIC the all-rounder Andre Russell will again be seen on the field.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) chairman of the selection panel said in a press statement, “We will be without our stalwart, Chris Gayle for this Indian tour and the next tour against Bangladesh as he has declined selection at this time, however, he has made himself available for the selection for the visit of England to the Caribbean and the World Cup in 2019.”

The guest team, eyeing 2019s 50-year World Cup and World T20 in Australia with three new playes, will play two-Test series five ODIs and three T20 Internationals in India. The first ODI will be held in Guwahati.

ODI Squad: Jason Holder (Captain), Fabian Allen, Sunil Ambris, Devendra Bishoo, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Ashley Nurse, Keemo Paul, Rovman Powell, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Oshane Thomas.

T20I Squad: Carlos Brathwaite (Captain), Fabian Allen, Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Evin Lewis, Obed McCoy, Ashley Nurse, Keemo Paul, Khary Pierre, Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Oshane Thomas.
