Cow Killers Will Be Hanged: Indian Minister Raman Singh
Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Indian state Chattisgarh, said Saturday those found killing cows will be hanged.
The remark of Singh comes amid aggressive push to cow protection measures in all the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled states in the country.
The Chief Minister added even though killing of cows in his state has not occurred in past fifteen years but if anyone is found committing it will be hanged.
Meanwhile, a legislation has been brought in Gujarat by the BJP party prescribing life sentence for cow slaughter.
Gujarat has become the first country in India to make cow slaughter punishable. It is learned the offence is non-bailable.
The new Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has ordered a crackdown on illegal abattoirs in the state saying the Supreme Court guidelines and that of National Green Tribunal should be maintained.
Earlier in 2015 the Haryana state government, again ruled by BJP, made a law the cow slaughter offence will land with three to ten years of imprisonment.
The rival parties have criticized the BJP’s stand alleging it is an attempt to impose Hindutva in India.
