Until now India has grasped five gold, three silver and four bronze medals in the wrestling at the CWG2018 games.

In the 2014 Commonwealth Games too India achieved five gold medals in wrestling. However, the overall count is now one less than the total in the category.

Sakshi lost to Canada’s Michelle Fazzari first and thereafter to Nigeria’s Aminat Adeniyi. She defeated Cameroon’s Berthe Ngolle. To win the third place medal she defeated New Zealand’s Tayla Ford by 6-5. Missing the gold brought tears in her eyes during medal ceremony.

Talking to the official media at Gold Coast she said, “I am so disappointed, I should have won a gold medal and I have to settle for a bronze. It will be another four years before I can make this right. I could not get what I expected of myself.”

Next in the calendar for Sakshi to prove herself grabbing gold is Asia Games.

Vinesh grabbed her second gold medal in wrestling even after sustaining her career-theratening injury during the Rio Olympics.

The sporting icon, mother-of-three, Mary Kom has bagged a total of six medals in the games with her gold debut at Gold Coast in the woman boxing sport.

Neeraj Chopra claimed a historic field gold in men’s javelin throw.
