Cyclone Gaja to hit Tamil Nadu coastal areas on November 15

People of Cuddalore and Pamban in Tamil Nadu to face heavy rainfall along with speedy wind on November when Cyclonic storm Gaja will landfall. The state government has put on alert its machinery and has kept 30,500 rescue personnel on standby.

Union territory of Puducherry will also be affected by the cyclone and hence the region is also put on alert to meet the situation.

According to met department the Gaja is currently 720 km east northeast of Chennai over the Bay and to likely move west southwestwards in next 24 hours to further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.

In a high level meeting the Tamil Nadu Revenue Minister R B Udaya Kumar said 30,500 rescue personnel are on standby and food as well as shelter arrangement have been made for people living in low lying areas.

More than 4,000 locations in the state are vulnerable to the Gaja cyclone and rescue teams of National and State Disaster Response Forces have been deployed. Meetings are being held to review preparedness. Couple of coastal districts like Cuddalore and Nagapattinam is put on high alert.

Met department said many places in Tamil Nadu to get heavy rain on November 14 too.
