This news was revealed by Activision recently and they are very happy that the $600 million spent by them in developing and marketing of this popular sci-fi shooter game has not gone a waste.
The revenues that the Density shooter game has earned in the 12 months last year amounts to $4.81 billion. But, this figure is slightly less than what Destiny game had achieved in the 12 months of 2013 which stood at $4.85 billion. There is no doubt that this shooting game has been able to kindle the interest of game lovers despite a lot of other new shooting games making its presence felt in 2014.
Activision Blizzard had a very busy 2014 with the launch of new game titles, spin offs from their popular properties as well as expansions of their long running and popular games. The big launch of 2014 for Activision Blizzard was the futuristic shooter Destiny game. The marketing and the development of this game cost Activision $500 million.
Blizzard has come out in the open to announce that so far 16 million people from across the globe have registered to play the game. But, its boss Mike Morhaime said that the company does not know how many of the 16 million registered players are regulars.
Mike also said that about 25 million players have registered to play the 2014 launched card based action and fighting game Hearthstone, which is linked to the popular Warcraft game series. There was also a World of Warcraft game expansion called Warlords of Draenor that came in the month of November in 2014 and this game helped in increasing the subscriber base of WoW games to over 10 million.
Before the release of this new game, there has been an alarming decrease in the number of WoW players and this new Warlords of Draenor game has attracted many gaming enthusiasts to switch back to playing WoW games. A total of 3.3 million copies of this new game was sold in just the first day of its launch.
The top selling gaming console game offered by Blizzard in 2014 was the successful Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare game. As of now, Activision Blizzard is pretty much satisfied with the sales performance of Destiny game in the market, despite not knowing about how many are the regular players of the game. The company is now looking forward to a fruitful 2015 and it has plans to launch two new titles in 2015, a shooting game called ‘Overwatch’ and a team based game called ‘Heroes of the Storm’.
