Election Result: Smriti Irani could defeat Rahul Gandhi from Amethi

UPDATE: At 1:10 PM Smriti Irani leads, Rahul Gandhi trails

Congress president Rahul Gandhi seems to be losing his patent Amethi seat. As of now Bharatiya Janata Party’s Smriti Irani is leading in the vote count, but still it is too early to come down to a conclusion.

Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Wayanad too in Kerala and it is a good news from the constituency for him. He is trending.

Amethi is one of the most watched battles in every Lok Sabha elections. Congress has not lost it in last three decades apart from the 1998 Lok Sabha elections in which Sanjay Singh of BJP defeated Satish Sharma.

The rural constituency is about 130 km from Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh.

Irani campaigned aggressively in the dusty constituency. In 2014 she lost the seat but with reduced margin to just one lakh. Even with defeat she continued her visits to the area and talked to people about problems and what solutions could be better. She launched several central schemes here.

BJP frequently accused Rahul Gandhi for neglecting Amethi after his win in 2014.
