Facebook Looking for an Alternative to “Like” Button: Zuckerberg
The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, has revealed that Facebook is very seriously looking at other options to the popular ‘Like’ button that is so popular on Facebook in order to allow its users to explore more emotions on the site. This was revealed by Zuckerberg during a Q&A interaction with the general public at the company’s headquarters. This is the second such Q&A talk organized by Facebook. He answered questions from people all over the world.
One of the questions that was asked to Zuckerberg was whether Facebook is looking at including a ‘dislike’ button. He replied that the company is exploring various kinds of emotions other than like and dislike button, but everything is still in the nascent stage now. He also added that the like button was very valuable to Facebook and the company understands that people do also like to express more than just positivity.
He said that a lot of people share sad moments in their lives as well as social and cultural things on Facebook and people reading the message cannot press the ‘like’ button for such emotions as it is not an appropriate emotion. This is why he felt that there is a need for giving more emotions to the people so that they can express their feelings on Facebook. Zuckerberg said that, “We need to figure out the right way to do it so that it ends up being a force for good and not a force for bad and demeaning the post that people are putting out there.”
Zuckerberg feels that there is no need for voting mechanism on Facebook to determine which of the posts are good and which are bad. He also said that Facebook does not have anything coming out very soon, but said that they are working on bringing out more emotions on Facebook.
Zuckerberg was asked as to whether Facebook has become a synonymous option or most people, and that they are wasting time and destroying productivity being on Facebook. Zuckerberg said that he does not consider Facebook to be a waste of time and trying to build relationships with people around you is not considered as a waste of time.
He said that Facebook is an important tool that helps people to stay connected with more people than they would have otherwise managed to do. He also said that Facebook is working on a social network for exclusive sue at the workplace and this could be rolled out soon.
