Facebook Shuts Notify App

Facebook today announced to be shutting down its Notify app that allows users subscribe to stations such as entertainment, politics, sports, gaming, fashion and more, and receive notifications even on their lock screen.

The Notify app was launched last year in November. Announcing the shutting down, Facebook said the app will no longer be supported and in the transitioning method parts of it will be shifted to other Facebook products.

Apple smartphone users were allowed to choose three or more stations that included The NYT Read of the Day, CNN Breaking News, CBS Sports Team News, Fandango’s Hot New Trailers, FOX News Politics, The Weather Channel Daily AM Forecast, Daily Meditation from Headspace, Vogue’s The 10 Best Dressed, and many more.

The app was launched with the aim to help users stay on top of things they care to have at least a glance each day.

Facebook said over 900 million people are using Messenger each month and this is the right time for publishers to reach even more people who are looking for some real-time updates.

However, in the first six months after launching the Notify counted even less than 5,000 app downloads.
