Former cricket Virendra Sehwag is not on Bharatiya Janata Party card. Insiders reveal he has denied to contest on BJP ticket in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held between April 11 and May 19.

However, there’s one fresh entry from cricket world in the party. Gautam Gambhir is considered to contest for a seat in New Delhi, added insiders.

Sehwag turned the BJP offer down for ticket from West Delhi constituency citing personal reasons.

A source said, “Sehwag said he would rather that his sister, who is active in politics as a councilor from the area under the West Delhi Parliamentary constituency, represents the family there.”

Polls in New Delhi will be held in the sixth phase on May 12 and so deciding on tickets for BJP has somewhat slowed down. The party’s Delhi unit earlier suggested two alternative candidates would be fielded from each of seven Parliamentary seats.

Following the turn down by Sehwag the candidature of sitting MP Pravesh Verma is now seems being considered.

Sources added Monika Arora was also considered as an alternative to Gambhir.
