Former J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti calls for all-party meet

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called Monday unity of all the political parties against the decision of New Delhi to send additional 10,000 troops to the Valley citing it can create atmosphere of panic.

Using her Twitter handle the Peoples Democratic Party chief called out National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah to convene an all-party meeting and forge a united response.

She said call of the hour is to unite and all the Kashmiris should stand up as one.

However, it is yet to see how Farooq Abdullah responses as PDP and NC have been bitter rivals for years in the state.

Jammu and Kashmir is currently under President’s Rule and according to analysts both the parties are looking ahead to seek maximum political mileage before the election which is due for later this year.

Meanwhile, the Center claims additional troops in the Valley are focused in strengthening the ongoing terror operations there and to prevent misadventure by ISI before or after August 15, the Independence Day.

An official said NIA’s crackdown on separatist elements in the Valley as well as sources of terror funding have reduced scale of terrorism.

Tourist arrivals have also increased in Kashmir, the hotels are now full and number of Amarnath pilgrims has increased too.

It was added, “There have been fewer strike calls lately, all of which add up to a picture that undermines Pakistan’s depiction of J&K as a tinderbox.”
