Gangster Ravi Pujari of Chhota Rajan gang extradited from Senegal
Underworld gangster Ravi Pujari was arrested and extradited from Senegal and brought back to Bengaluru in Karnataka. He had been missing for more than 15 years.
Pujari was wanted in about 90 cases in the state. Many cases are of extortion are registered against him in Gujarat.
Supreme Court of Senegal rejected last Wednesday his request to challenge extradition to India.
Today he was produced before a Bengaluru court and has been sent to police custody till March 7.
During his arrest it was revealed Pujari had a Burkina Faso passport and named as Anthony Fernandes.
During 1990s he was mentored by Chhota Rajan gangster and in around 2001 they parted.
Chhota Rajan is currently serving a life sentence in a Navi Mumbai jail.
Additional Director-General of Police Amar Kumar Pandey said, “He is physically fit. Questioning will begin from tomorrow (Monday). First, we have to take him to the magistrate. He will be produced before the court tomorrow (Monday). He is supporting our investigation and answering questions.’
It is alleged Pujari used demand extortion from Bollywood personalities during the period of 2009 to 2013.
In 2018 Gujarat legislator Jignesh Mewani and activists Umar Khalid alleged had received death threats from Pujari.
