Great Indian Idols and their Robbery

The arrest of Subhash Chandra Kapoor,an Indian American art dealer in 2012 revealed a global network of agents, thieves and smugglers involved  in ancient idols from various ancient temples particularly in Tamil Nadu.


A series of investigation and trial ran by CID of Tamil Nadu disclosed the fact that Mr Kapoor who runs an art gallery in Madison Avenue,New York was involved in many such illegal activities.

Some of the idols stolen are as follows:

A Somaskanda Bronze idol stolen in 2008

Valli ,Subramaniyar,Deivanai,Nataraj& Sivangami Amman from Suthamalli & Sripuranthan Temple

A stone sculpture from the Vriddhachalam temple

The Deepalakshmi idol

Although he rejects of any such claims stating that he is simply a business man who buy and sell antiques but as per the evidences from Tamil Nadu crime branch,Interpol and various intelligence agengies he has been convicted and trailed under subsequent investigations.Although all idols stolen from 1970s not yet recovered but the fact that smuggling of such historical antiques has been continuing.Intelligence agengies are constantly working to fight such activites.Hope we can get back so called our pride and history
