Grenade attack in Jammu bus stand; Teenager killed, 2 dozen injured

A granade attack in Jammu killed one teenager and injured more than two dozen others on Thursday. Five are in critical conditions. Suspect who threw the grenade is under arrest.

The 17-year-old Mohammad Sharik died on the spot due to splinter injures in chest. He was from Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

A senior police officer said grenade was under a bus of the state road transport corporation (SRTC), believed to have been rolled under a parked bus, at a bus stand in the heart of Jammu. It exploded at around 11:30 a.m. and caused panic among the people.

Police cordoned off the B C Road following the attack and massive hunt was launched the search for the grenade thrower.

Inspector General of Police, Jammu, M K Sinha said, “Whenever there is heightened state of alert, we strengthen checking and frisking but there is alawys a possibility of someone slipping through and this one seems to be a case like that.”

Since May 2018 this is the third grenade attack by terrorists in bus stand area in Jammu.

The attack comes three weeks after Pulwama terror attack in Kashmir valley by Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror outfit. The group had taken responsibility of the February 14 attack.

On February 26 Indian Air Force retaliated by carrying out air strikes on training camp of the group in Balakot region of Pakistan.
