Gurgaon pays musical tribute to ‘People’s President- Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’
On the 84th birth anniversary of the Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Sarod master Ayaan Ali Khan devoted an instrumental rendition of ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram‘ and ‘Vaishnav Jan ko’ as a beautiful musical tribute and mark of reverence to the Late President. In today’s time when music is losing its soul, Suncity World School organized a musical tribute to promote India’s traditional music and inculcate its essence in the students. Ayaan Ali Khan was accompanied on Tabla by Ustad Rashid Mustapha Thirakua and Pt. Fateh Singh Gangwani of the Jaipur School of Kathak.
Ayaan Ali Khan, the youngest son of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, in his 90 minutes performance, weaved spirituality, devotion and human emotions seamlessly and deeply in the students. The students tried their best to sing along, clap and tap their feet while witnessing the performance that gave a soulful rendering of melodious ragas. The Late President always had a love for traditional music and had immense knowledge of the instrument Sarod.
“Making students know about their culture is a great tribute that we could have offered to the Late President. We are thankful to Ayaan Ali Khan who joined us for an impeccable performance and for delivering the importance of Sarod to the students,” said Rupa Chakravarty, Principal Suncity School, Gurgaon.
Ayaan also imparted the history of Sarod from its origin to the latest version that has been in our roots since mid-18th century. His breathtaking performance mesmerized the students of Suncity and inquisitiveness of French students to learn the stringed instrument further added glory to the entire event. Ayaan Ali Khan also invited students to come up on the stage and sing with him, a French student went on to sing a French song while he played the Sarod. He was accompanied by the artists who played their instruments while she sang.
Alina a French student said, “For me strings produce music in Guitars and Violin but I was in complete awe of deep, weight and introspective sound from Sarod”.
Ayaan Ali Khan said “The day marks the birth anniversary of a great scientist Dr Kalam who was fond of music, together we would pay a tribute to him by playing the favorite compositions of another great leader Mahatma Gandhi who had his birth anniversary on the 2nd of this month. Music transcends the barriers of language, it reunites the soul to the creator. Children should learn Music, meditating with the Ragas would enhance their concentration.”
“It was an amazing experience to witness Ayaan Ali Khan’s performance at our school. I really enjoyed the entire program and wish that our school continues to host such great artists in future as well” said Ranvijay Singh a student of XI standard, Suncity School.
