The address was emotional when Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the about 500 Varanasi people on Saturday leaving no doubt that his Bharatiya Janata Party will again win the 2019 election.

Releasing a special 84-page booklet titled Meri Kashi the PM recounted his work done in past four years as an MP for the city.

He said the people here own him and he is imprisoned in their love. He has been deeply touched with the letters that Varanasi wasi, including women and children, have written to him.

The PM added he is now a Banarasi now as the people here have accepted him.

He further said, “Some come to Kashi when they die… I am lucky to have come here while I am alive.”

He continued saying that every small and significant matter in the city is in his notice and the letters from Banaras makes him feel people have made him their guardian and he is honored.

In his half-an-hour speech Modi said he would continue to work for the city till his death as Varanasi has given him immense affection and the bonding between him and the people there is not about government programmes or budgets.

He added, “It is much deeper. My vision is a city with a mix of tradition and modernity.”
