Income Tax Department Urges To File ITRs By July 31

The Indian Income Tax Department has requested taxpayers to file income tax returns (ITRs) by July 31 as there will be no extension of deadline beyond it.

The department said they have received more than 2 crore returns electronically and on e-filing website it added there is no report of major glitches.

Advertisements have also been issued in leading national dailies lately stating people should disclose their income correctly and file the ITR on time.

Meanwhile, the linking of Aadhaar number has also been made mandatory with the PAN (Permanent Account Number) for filing of returns beginning July 1.

It is also urged to declare in ITR cash deposit in bank accounts aggregating to at least Rs 2 lakh between November 9 and December 30 in 2016, which means after demonetization.

The return will be of fiscal year 2016-17 or assessment year 2017-18.
