India-Bangladesh T20I in Delhi not to be canceled due to smog: Sourav Ganguly

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly said Thursday the board will be careful in selecting venues next time immediately after the Diwali festival. Lately it is speculated the first T20I match between India and Bangladesh in Delhi could be postponed due to smog and pollution.

The BCCI chief added the match will not be canceled at the last moment and the board is in talk with Delhi authorities, who too are expecting the match to go through.

Sourav Ganguly further said, “We came in on the October 28 and it was too late to do anything, lot of preparation go in matches.’

Briefing to the media he added that next time the board would be a bit more practical in scheduling matches in North during post-Diwali period.

He said to have spoken to groundsman in Delhi who was his groundsman in the capital. The groundman believe things will be fine once the sun comes out.

Rohit Sharma will be leading team in all the three T20Is against Bangladesh starting at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, November 3.

The cricketer said he has not faced any weather related problem in Delhi during this period of the year.

Earlier, IANS reported the Indian players would spend more time at the gyp ahead of the match instead of practicing outdoor due to massive pollution and smog. It cited the Air Quality Index (AQI) that shows no improvement signs in the region.
