India successfully tests Anti-Satellite Missile destroying live satellite

India too would be now counted in the space “super league,” if believed to the country’s prime minister Narendra Modi.

Indian scientists successfully tested Wednesday its Anti-Satellite (ASAT) Missile by destroying a low-orbiting satellite.

Addressing to the nation on TV, radio and social media the prime minister congratulated everyone and said, “In the journey of every nation there are moments that bring utmost pride and have a historic impact on generations to come. One such moment is today.”

The satellite was pre-determined and was orbiting at an altitude of 300km. Without defining the owner of the satellite Modi said India has not breached any international laws or treaties.

Led by the Defence Research and Development Organization, the Mission Shakti is claimed to be strengthening overall security of the country.

Modi said, “#MissionShakti was a highly complex one, conducted at extremely high speed with remarkable precision. It shows the remarkable dexterity of India’s outstanding scientists and the success of our space programme.”

United States, Russia and China are the other countries to have acquired such a specialized and modern capability.

The prime minister added India stands tall as a space power with this successful test.

India is just a fortnight away from the 2019 national elections.
