Indian Passport To Introduce Bilingual Format: Sushma Swaraj

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said Friday passports should be in Hindi as well along with English language as the passports of Arab countries, Germany and Russia have their local language.

Making the announcement she added there would be reduction in fees by 10 percent for those who are under eight and above sixty years of age.

Attending the event to mark 50 years of the Passport Act, 1967, the minister added that for the tatkal passport application ration card could be submitted as a valid document to help those who don’t have a PAN card.

The event was attended by Ministers of State in the External Affairs Ministry V.K. Singh, Communication Minister Manoj Sinha and M.J. Akbar.

Swaraj said she has studied the passport rules deeply and found some steps were unnecessary, obsolete or impractical and she has also taken necessary measures in easing the rules for the orphans, single mothers and divorced women.

She added lots of complaints have come to notice about difficulties in getting passport and delays in police verification too.

For the Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Delhi, Gujarat, Chandigarh and Goa states the police verification will now be processed within six working days.

Lately the NDA government the Ministry of External Affairs started Post Office Passport Seva Kenfras (PoPSK). In the first phase 86 such centers have been announced and in second phase additional 149 such kendras will be named.
