The decades-old looking Indian passport will henceforth look smart. It will undergo a makeover. The last page containing names of parents, spouse and address of the holder will have a changed color, said External Affairs Ministry.

Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said various issues of the passport will be examined by a three-member committee comprising of officials of External Affairs Ministry and Ministry of Women and Child Development.

One of the important suggestions to look is to whether name of father should be mentioned. Issues with children with single parent will also be discussed while making changes in the Indian passport.

The spokesperson said, “The report of the committee has been accepted by the ministry.”

Kumar mentioned names of father or legal guardian, mother, spouse and address will be consulted before making changes.

Also, the guidelines of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will be taken care of related to the machine-readable travel documents.

The last page of Indian passport contains other information too like the Emigration Check Required (ECR) and date as well as the number of old passport.

The new passport will be designed by the Indian Security Press (ISP).
