Indian Railways could reduce employees load soon

Indian Railways will see a major layoff soon and it is learned about three lakh employees would retire voluntarily. Probably those who are of more than 55 years old could take the exit road.

All the zonal chiefs have been informed by the Ministry of Railways and Railway Board to make a list of employees based on their performances.

It is also learned the ministry has sought to know which employees have completed 30 years in job and are also above the age of 55 by first quarter of 2020.

The zonal managers have been asked to hold performance reviews of the employees and accordingly prepare service record. The performance review sheet is to include physical and mental fitness of the employees, discipline and daily attendance.

The Ministry of Railways is seeking the staff members’ reviews by August 9.

Currently there are about 13 lakh Indian Railways employees and it is learned there could be reduction of 3 lakh employees.

Earlier this month the Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said profiles of corrupt officials are being studied and strict action would be taken against those who will be found with issues.

Piyush Goyal added, “Ministry of Railways is now studying profiles of many officers to see if some action can be initiated to give a message to the others.”

Last month about fifteen senior officers of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs retired with immediate effect.
