Indian Railways To Introduce Faster Rajdhani Train On Delhi-Mumbai Route

The Ministry of Railways announced today to run a faster Delhi-Mumbai Special Rajdhani Express between the two metros from October 16. The service will be thrice a week and presently is to be in an experimental without flexi-fare to gauge the response of public. It will follow a flat increase in fares, which will be at least 20 percent more than the base fares in the route.

Flexi-fare for Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto was introduced last year on September 9. Later, on December 19 onward the Railways started offering 10 percent rebate on vacant seat after chart preparation.

The travel time between Delhi and Mumbai will be reduced to 13 hours 55 minutes from 15 hours 50 minutes. The special train will have stops only at Kota, Vadodara and Surat between the two metros.

According to the officials the maximum speed of the Special Rajdhani will be 130 kmph. It will be equipped with two WAP5 locomotives with each having 5,400 horsepower.

Two Rajdhani trains and at least thirty express or mail trains runs with the help of such transporter between Delhi and Mumbai.

The ministry added Special Rajdhani will be equipped with twelve 3AC, two 2AC and just one first AC apart from a pantry car.

The new train will run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 4.15 p.m. from Hazrat Nizamuddin station in Delhi. It would reach the next day at 6.10 a.m. at Bandra Terminus.

The train will depart from Bandra Terminus on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 4.15 p.m. and is scheduled to reach destination station at 6.10 a.m. the next day.
