At first it was the additional deployment of 10,000 troops to the Kashmir Valley about a week ago. Later, it was decided by the Narendra Modi government to send another 28,000 paramilitary forces.

After this, a statement came from home ministry in Parliament saying situation has been improved.

Minister of State for Home Affairs G Krishan Reddy told in Rajya Sabha on July 24, “Net infiltration has reduced by 43 per cent and local recruitment has declined by 40 per cent. Terrorist initiated incidents have declined by 28 per cent. Actions initiated by the security forces witnessed an increase of 59 per cent and have resulted in 22 per cent increase in neutralisation of terrorists.”

Well, a general wisdom says troops are reduced when security threat is less and boosted in vice versa.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik too said last month there had been no infiltration in past months.

So, why the question of increased troops comes here is the biggest question and local leaders are asking the same.

However, there’s a good argument by the Bharatiya Janata Party, which had planned to host Indian flag in every panchayat on August 15, the Independence Day. The government wants to push the celebrations in all the panchayats.

In such case, the deployment of additional troops is rational.
