Jharkhand election dates announced, between Nov 30 and Dec 20

Assembly elections in Jharkhand are scheduled to be held in five phases between November 30 and December 20. The Election Commission will announce the result on December 23.

Congress will be going with alliance Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and BJP with All Jharkhand Students Union to defend the Raghubar Das government.

The elections will be a litmus test for the BJP following the below par poll results recently in Maharashtra and Haryana.

The party will be careful in the ticket distribution and strategy on election campaign.

Jharkhand was formed in 2000 and since then BJP has never won a simple majority on its own here.

A BJP leader from the state said the party need to work hard in retaining power and it will be a big achievement if a simple majority is won.

In 2014 the party formed government with alliance All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU) by winning 37 and 5 seats respectively. In 2019 Lok Sabha elections the coalition managed grabbing 12 of fourteen seats.

Raghubar Das will be promoting the welfare programmes of his government like increased access to banking and initiatives for financial inclusion of women’s groups.

Tribals and minorities together form more than 26 percent of the total state population.

Chief Election Commission Sunil Arora was asked why the Delhi Assembly elections were not clubbed with Jharkhand.

He said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is to decide whether he wants elections immediately and there was no such plan under consideration.

Delhi Assembly election is due for February.
