Kargil war victory is a symbol of India’s might, capability and determination, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital while addressing at the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the war.

The PM added, “Wars are fought not by governments but by the whole country. Kargil victory still inspires the whole country.”

Modi compared the victory with India’s independence that was for the whole country and not for one caste, one community or people speaking one language.

The leader said Pakistan had always used deceit over Kashmir issue such as in 1948, 1965, and 1971.

He said the nature of war has changed over time and today terrorism is a challenge to the whole of mankind.

Modi continued, “Today, the wars have reached space. Wars are fought even in cyberworld today. So, modernization of defense forces is not only a necessity but also our priority. Modernization should be the identity of our defense forces.”

Modi further said that national security question will not be addressed in fear, shortages or influence of anyone. India’s priorities will be considered while doing so.
