LK Advani not contesting. Is he retiring at 91?

For Lal Krishna Advani earlier it was the party’s decision to decide who it wanted to field, but now the 91-year-old is learned through sources have withdrawn from contesting on BJP ticket.

Person close to him said, “Advani told the party three-four days back that he will not contest… His decision to not contest the Lok Sabha election means he is retiring.”

Meanwhile, BJP released its first list of 184 candidates for the April-May parliamentary polls revealed most of the leaders above the age of 75 have been dropped like Garhwal MP BC Khanduri (84), Nainital MP Bhagat Singh Koshyari (76) and Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakravarty (79).

LK Advani was member of Rajya Sabha four times and elected to the Lok Sabha seven times including being India’s deputy prime minister.

The popular leader handpicked and patronized several BJP leaders during her days of active politics for key roles and it was his support on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2002 to save his job as Gujarat chief minister following Gujarat riots.

After the 2014 elections when BJP stormed to power he and Murli Manohar Joshi played advisory role in the margdarshak mandal of the party.

The two veteran leaders missed ministerial berth following the decision of BJP not to make minister to those who are above 75 years in age.
