Mehbooba Mufti warns Jaitley of adverse relation if Article 370 revoked

Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir warned finance minister Arun Jaitley relationship with centre would be over if Article 370 of the Indian Constitution is revoked.

Addressing to party workers the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti added on Saturday, “Jaitley must understand this. It is not an easy thing to say. If you scrap 370, your relation with Jammu and Kashmir will be over.”

Earlier this week the finance minister advocated repeal of special status to J&K and said the Article 35A is constitutionally vulnerable.

The Article 35A restricts non-permanent residents to purchase property in the state and Jaitley added that it is hampering economic development of J&K too.

Mehbooba said Article 370 of the Constitution acted like a bridge between center and state and New Delhi need to renegotiate relationship with the state if it was revoked.

She added that without 370 the state needs to rethink whether to stay with India.

The former chief minister said, “Because if you have given us a special position in the Constitution of India and you break that position, then we will have to rethink whether we would even want to stay with you without conditions.”
