Modi meets Tulsi Gabbard on the sidelines of UNGA

Unscheduled meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Tulsi Gabbard, the first Hindu elected to the US Congress, was surprising to many. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

Tulsi Gabbard failed to join the September 22 Howdy Modi event in Houston and she apologized and extended a warm welcome to Modi.

She said her previously scheduled presidential campaign events is keeping her away from the Howdy Modi event but hope to meeting the Indian leader on his visit to discuss strong partnership of America with India.

The Howdy Modi event was witnessed by 50,000 people at the NGR stadium and the PM backed US president Donald Trump for a second term.

The Democratic Party member lately had bit back to critics for accusing her being a Hindu nationalist.

The 37-year-old asked, “Tomorrow will it be Muslim or Jewish Americans? Japanese, Hispanic or African Americans?”

Gabbard said that she is proud to be first Hindu-American who has been elected to Congress and now to run for the US presidential election.

She added that India was one of the closest allies of America in Asia and it is of growing importance in a critical region of the world.
